Why Our Manufactured Life?
Well in June of 2015 we closed the deal on a 1988 manufactured double wide home on an owned lot. Manufactured homes have a certain stigma around them from years and years ago. Today they are held to higher standards of materials, labor and craftsmanship than many stick built homes. It took us educating ourselves and really looking at them new and used before we decided (with just a little pushing from moi) that this was 100% the right move to make for our little family.
Housing prices in our area are through the roof. A pretty typical 1700-1900 square foot house can easily cost you $400,000-$500,000 to start if you want to live within a couple hours daily commute of the more major cities. As a young family of three, we didn’t have the means to afford that expensive of a house right away. As we both work, we didn’t think we could handle an hour plus commute each way to work either. So we found the perfect option for young, first time homebuyers, a manufactured home that needed just a little bit of sweat equity to make it really shine.
Oh I do love a good project!
